Skip Counting by 5s (to 1,000): how to help at home or in class
Set out a pile of nickels and touch each one while counting 5, 10, 15, and so on. Eight nickels make 40 cents, so stop there and ask what the total is. Then count by 5s without coins from a random start like 735, and cross a hundred, as in 985, 990, 995, 1,000. When your child keeps going smoothly past a hundred, counting by 10s from any starting number is next.
